Nigeria awards Gates CFR as he commits $7.5M to AI innovation hub
Earlier today, the Gates Foundation signed an MoU with the Government of Nigeria, committing up to $7.5 million to scale solutions at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and health, education, agriculture, and more.
Imagine a future where:
Frontline health workers can detect high-risk pregnancies early using AI-enabled ultrasound devices;
Smallholder farmers receive real-time advice on crops, weather, and market prices—in their own language, through a simple voice call;
Children learn to read, count, and engage in science in their mother tongues using AI-powered learning tools, at scale.
That’s the kind of transformation we’re working toward—using AI as a force for impact, to serve and save lives. This work is especially meaningful to me, as it sits at the heart of my role at the foundation and aligns deeply with my personal passion. I’m both humbled and energized to see the second AI Scaling Hub now take flight, following the successful launch of Rwanda’s AI Scaling Hub in April 2025.
Huge thanks to Minister Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani and his team for their leadership as host ministry, and to Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University, for hosting the Nigeria AI Scaling Hub as an implementing partner.
This is just the beginning!
